Using Central Station

Copenhagen Central station lives up to its name, as it’s situated in the heart of the city center, adjacent to the renowned Tivoli Gardens.

Escalators and lift links all platforms to the magnificent central concourse.

International Day Trains at Copenhagen

There is a daily EC (ICE) train in each direction between Copenhagen and Berlin and other EC (ICE) trains operate between Copenhagen and Hamburg.
There are a minimum of four daily trains per day travelling direct* between Copenhagen and Hamburg all year round, but an additional two daily trains operate between Mar 30th and Apr 23rd (not Apr 4/5th) and June 4th - Aug 30th.
*No change of train is required but the trains are loaded on to a ferry for the sea crossing between Denmark and Germany, passengers stay on the train while it is loaded, but then have to leave the train in order to travel in the passenger lounges on the ferry while it is at sea.

Rail pass users don't have to make reservations on these trains, but ThereByTrain recommends doing so, particularly in 2nd class, ion Friday-Sundays and during July and August.

Sn trains link Copenhagen to Stockholm
Passengers booking tickets for these trains at Copenhagen station will automatically have seats assigned, and rail pass holders have to reserve/pay supplements for travel by Sn trains. However, check at the travel/information desk whether a reservation is required prior to boarding other long distance trains into Sweden, and pay additional charges at the ticket office.

Passengers intending to travel from Germany to Sweden by train now have connections of 25-30mins between the arrival of the direct trains from Hamburg and the departure of Sn trains to Stockholm.
These connections are not guaranteed, the Sn trains will not delay their departure if the EC trains are running late.
Therefore through passengers rail pass holders in particular, should arrange their reservations and pay the supplement for the Sn trains at the international travel desk at Hamburg station (hbf), (or at other large stations in Germany.)

Other Trains to Sweden

Frequent local trains operate to Malmo in Sweden from Copenhagen using the incredible Oresund Bridge.
These local trains from Copenhagen extend beyond Malmo to other cities in southern Sweden including Gothenburg, Helsingborg, Lund, Karlskrona and Kristianstadt.

Reservations are not necessary for travel on local trains between Denmark and Sweden

Overnight Trains

The overnight train service  from Copenhagen to Amsterdam, Basel, Cologne/Koln and Prague/Praha HAS  NOW BEEN DISCONTINUED and there is no viable alternative for overnight train travel from Copenhagen to these destinations.

Daytime trains connections from Copenhagen to Amsterdam are possible by changing trains at Hamburg and Osnabruck, for Basel and Cologne/Koln connections are possible at Hamburg, but for Prague/Praha take the daily EC/ICE train to Berlin hbf and connect there.

Public Transport Connections

Central station is not yet on Copenhagen’s U-bahn (underground network), but local S-trains serve other destinations in the city centre including Vesterport, Norreport and Osterport.
